Christmas 2019 is only 8 days away and the Cowichan Valley has tons of ways for you, your family & friends to spend the holidays!

Ladysmith Festival of Lights

One of my favorite holiday traditions is checking out the beautiful lights display on Ladysmith’s Historical 1st Avenue.  We always start at Aggie Hall where the giant Christmas tree is. From there we walk up one side of 1st Avenue and down the other side, to make sure we see all the best views!  Make sure you grab a warm drink (and a treat) from the Old Town Bakery or The Bean Time Café

Ladysmith’s Annual Fire/Rescue Santa Clause Parade

Head north to Ladysmith on Sunday December 22 and check out the Fire/Rescue Santa Clause Parade! Click this link  to find out where and when Santa will be making his stops. Not only will Santa be there, but he will be escorted by the biggest, reddest and shiniest fire trucks!!

The Butchart Gardens

Head over to Saanich and see the beautiful Twelve Days of Christmas lights display at The Butchart Gardens. They got it all, from colorful lights, ice skating, carolers and yummy treats. You will be amazed at how beautiful the gardens are! My recommendation is to explore the gardens after the sun has set to get the best views of the twinkling lights in the dark. The photo shown above is of the Sunken Gardens.

Cowichan Community Center Winter Wonderland Ice Skate

Saturday, December 21 the arena will be filled with lights, holiday tunes and decorations to make you feel all the Christmas feels! They will have arts & crafts, crazy carpet slide and visit from Santa who will be handing out some treats for the kids. *Please note this event is free, however tickets are required. You can pick up tickets while supplies last at the community center.

Cowichan Lake Winter Wonderland Ice Skate

On Monday, December 23 head out and enjoy a Family fun day at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. The arena will be transformed into a winter wonderland on ice! Featuring a toboggan run, hockey, hot cocoa and even a visit from Santa!

Holiday Train Ride

All Aboard!! Just 5 minutes away from the Ramada Duncan, you can hop on the Christmas train at the BC Forest Discovery Center! It’s a perfect way to kick off the holiday season, and always a huge holiday favorite for kids. You and the whole family can go for a ride together, and enjoy hot chocolate, a visit with Santa, caroling and of course the train ride! Your kids will be sure to love the Christmas Express!

Chemainus Theatre

If going the theater is your fancy, then stroll on over to the Chemainus Theatre and watch the Miracle on 34th Street playing until January 13, 2020. I’d like to recommend stopping in for dinner at Odikas restaurant for global and domestic food before the show.
Happy Holidays & All the best in the New Year!
