Another Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and here in the Cowichan Valley there is never a shortage of awesome things to do with your family! We’ve come up with, and personally tested out some things to do this Mother’s Day, to help celebrate mom!

Mothers Day Brunch

Join us on May 12th, at the Ramada where we will transform our ballroom into an elegant setting, perfect for Mother’s Day Brunch. There are four seating times to choose from, 9:30am or 10:00am & 12:00pm or 12:30 pm. The buffet will be featuring a live carving station of pork loin with apricot stuffing and soy-ginger baked salmon, as well as a make your own omelette station. We will also have a large variety of breakfast, lunch and dessert options for you to choose from.  During the brunch our Events Manager, Mary will be handing out raffle tickets to all of the moms to be entered to win some great prizes.
As this is a sellout event, reservations are highly suggested. All reservations can be made by calling the Front Desk at 250-748-4311 or stopping by on your next visit to The Old Fork!

Nature Walk With The Family

My favorite Mother’s Day tradition is to go for an outdoor nature walk with my family. We have been doing it for as long as I can remember. We’d all pile into the car, Dad would drive us somewhere, usually a walk that lead to a beach, and we’d all hop out and go explore some place new. It was a great way to get the family outside in the fresh air, and being a family of 6 it was a great inexpensive way to spend time together while still doing something fun. I can remember myself and my three siblings all racing around trying to see who can pick the prettiest bouquet of flowers for our mom, they usually ended up being a bouquet of dandelions and daisy’s, but regardless our mom would still love them and put them in a vase once we got home. Talking about it now as adults, my parents always say their fondest memories are ones like those, where we truly got to enjoy each other’s presence and be together. Check out our 5 Places to Walk Your Dog Blog for a list of local trails you and your family can try out this Mother’s Day, and maybe turn it into a yearly tradition!

Bee Alive In The Hive Art Studio

Once a month we get the Ramada, The Old Fork, and our River Rock staff together for a Health & Wellness activity. This month we did a splatter paint night at the Bee Alive in The Hive Art Studio, and it was one of our best turn outs yet! Everyone got a canvas of their own and a pallet of paint, and were able to create whatever we wanted on our canvas, most of us opted to take advantage of the splatter room and go crazy with the paint! It was so much fun! This Mother’s Day, head to The Hive and participate in one of their awesome workshops, they have so many different options there will for sure be something for everyone! They offer quite a few different options from Ceramic Painting, Guided Paint Nights, Glass Painting, Paint Pouring and our favorite, the Splatter Paint Night!
You can check out their
website for more details on what types of workshops they offer and on what days they’re available for you to attend them!

Family BBQ

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned family BBQ! Trying to get all of the moms together can be challenging, there’s your mom, your aunts, your sisters, your grandma, the in-law and even you! Having a backyard BBQ is a great way to get them all together. Backyard BBQ’s are always a big hit with our giant family, and an easy way to make everyone included! We always get the guys on grill duty, make a few different sides and pick up a Mother’s Day cake and cookies while decorating the tables with fresh flowers. We’ll spend the afternoon eating yummy food, playing bocce ball, lawn darts and finish the night with sitting by the fire pit enjoying the company of family. It’s a great way to spend mother’s Day celebrating all of the mom’s in your life together!
Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there!
