5 Ways to Get Festive in Duncan this Holiday Season!
December 16, 2018
Take a ride on the Holiday Train
Hop on the Christmas train over at the BC Forest Discovery Center, it’s a perfect way to kick off the holiday season! You and the whole family can head to the Discovery Center, which is only 5 minutes away from the Duncan Ramada, and enjoy hot chocolate, a visit with Santa, caroling and of course the train ride! Your kids will be sure to love the Christmas Express! All aboard!

Get Cozy with some Boozy Hot Chocolate
This is the perfect recipe for you to make to impress your friends and family this holiday season, and it’s SO easy! I love making this; it goes great for a friends get together or on a snowy night when you’re curled up under a blanket.
First you will combine the milk, cream and chocolate chips in a saucepan over medium low heat. Heat until the chocolate has melted, while whisking frequently.
Stir in the sugar and cook for 2 minutes. Taste, and add more milk if needed
Once its heated to your desired temperature, remove the pan from the element and stir in the vanilla and the peppermint schnapps
Next you’ll pour it into glasses/mugs (preferably cute Christmas ones)
Garnish with mini marshmallows, whipped cream and crushed candy cane bits! If you want, use a whole candy cane as a stir stick to make it look more festive!
3 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 oz. of peppermint schnapps
mini marshmallows, crushed candy canes and whipped cream
Make a Candy Cane Ice Cream Cake
This dessert is the perfect way to end the night. After filling up on yummy mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and of course turkey, you’ll need something sweet! This recipe is so easy to make, yet so good and so festive!
First you’ll need to make your pie crust. Combine the butter, sugar, cocoa powder and graham cracker crumbs in a bowl, mix it and press evenly into the bottom of a nonstick spring form pan. Let it set for a few minutes in the fridge.
While you’re waiting for that to harden now is a good time to melt your chocolate chips. Melt them in a microwave for one minute, stir and melt for another 15 seconds till you get good consistency.
Next, take the pan out of the fridge and scoop softened ice cream into the pan and spread it out evenly.
Pour the melted chocolate on top of the ice cream, now is where you can get creative! If you have icing tips you can make fun festive designs or holiday slogans with the chocolate on top of the ice cream and decorate it with candy canes and Hershey’s chocolates. You can also spread the chocolate over top of the ice cream and add crushed candy canes and shaved/chopped Hershey’s chocolates. Either way it’ll still taste amazing!
Place the cake in the freezer for a couple of hours to harden.
Lastly! Cut, serve and enjoy!
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (if you want a chocolate flavored base)
1 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
Ice cream of your choice. I use vanilla or chocolate for this recipe.
2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Crushed candy canes & Peppermint Hershey’s chocolate kisses
